Design an app that allows efficiency and transparency for delivery drivers, allowing them to perform same day services.

LET'S TAKE ON AMAZON

After having a client brainstorming session with the client, we needed to create a digital solution and platform to allow same day deliveries of their products. Drivers need to know where they're doing that day and that their work is recorded accurately.

MY ROLE

As the lead designer on this project, I worked closely with the product manager and technical architect to define and develop the app. I focused on interaction, motion, and visual design.

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH

We started by putting together a current state user journey (based on 7 user interviews) to identify areas of opportunity. After interviewing several users and doing "day in the life" studies, we found that the biggest pain point for drivers was not having their deliveries accurately recorded, and getting credit for their work. We also did a thorough competitor analysis on other mobile delivery logistics systems.

FEATURE BRAINSTORMING

The main user need we needed to address was delivery confirmation. To solve this, we came up with a geofence feature such that when a delivery driver is within 80 ft of the dropoff location, they'll be reassured they are in the right area and prompted to confirm the delivery. We also instituted a GPS tracking feature to automatically record the date in time the driver arrived at the location.

To satisfy the fact that the user will be driving 90% of the day, we made the interactions swipe based rather than click based to make it easy for them to perform the action with a bigger touch target.

LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAME & USER TESTING

Now it was time to put all 3 features together: route optimization, delivery confirmation, barcode scanner from the Requirements Traceability Matrix. After some rounds of user testing, we found that the screens were inundated with too much information and the text was too hard to read, especially since the phone will be mounted on the car dashboard. We addressed these issues in the high fidelity round.
